Malaysian singer auditions for American Idol, duets with Lionel Richie

Cheryl Koh, who goes by her stage name Cheryl K, recently auditioned for Season 19 of the popular show.

LOS ANGELES:
Cheryl Koh, a 24-year-old Selangor native currently based in Los Angeles made waves not only in America but also on social media when she auditioned for Season 19 of the popular reality show, ‘American Idol’.

Koh, who goes by the stage name Cheryl K, sang in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie on an episode that aired on March 7, but unfortunately did not make it through to the next round.

Despite the letdown, not all is lost for Cheryl K, who performed a duet of “Endless Love” with her long-time idol, Richie, and even got him to autograph her original vinyl copy of his 1981 hit with Diana Ross.

Following that, Richie posted a snippet of her audition with the tweet, “You brought tears and wonderful memories to my eyes today.”

Cheryl K, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a minor in music, rose to fame when she sang the opening song for the famous Hollywood film, ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, in 2018.

She is currently pursuing a full-time career in music.
