Her “Midang Midang” music video showcased the best of Sarawak’s unique cultural diversity and identity in fashionable styles and designs.
Sarawak Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it was truly an honour for Sarawak to have Alena as a sape-playing artiste who conveyed subtle messages on the unique culture, fashion and traditions in a beautiful music video.
“It is also heartening to see that Alena’s outfits and accessories, which were featured in the award-winning music video, were the works of all our local designers and traditional craft workers,” he said in a statement today.
He was pleased to note that the music video was shot in the Bario Highlands and the beautiful Tusan Beach in Miri.
This could stir keen interest among viewers from other countries, particularly those who want to know more about Sarawak’s tourism attractions, he added.
“Of course, her music video has the potential and power to showcase Sarawak’s culture on the global stage.
“We can consider supporting similar initiatives in the near future as they can do us a favour in carrying a powerful message to outsiders.
“Once again, I congratulate Alena and her team for their international award. It is also an achievement for Sarawak after its unique cultural heritage and traditions got the recognition via a wonderful music video which has garnered 40,000 views on YouTube so far,” he said.
The music video was produced by film creative hub Project Room together with Alena’s Kanid Studio. It was launched on Nov 27 last year with the support of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and Miri City Council (MCC).
