The Great Wall Motors ORA ES11 compact electric car has been spotted in Klang, Selangor.

The ORA is an electric vehicle sub-brand of Great Wall Motors and is a full electric car (EV) with a possible 400 km driving range and a battery system that charges in just 30 minutes.

Emanuel Derta, who was part of the Porsche design team, is responsible for the exterior design of this cute five-door EV.

A closer look at its nose will reveal elements of the Porsche 911. Its curved front fenders with a rounded front nose mimics that of the Porsche Panamera.

At the rear, slim tail-lights and a curvaceous rump appeal to the eye. It is a clean design that might have some mistaking it for the previous 2010 Nissan Micra or even a re-styled VW Beetle.

The cabin is spacious enough to comfortably seat five average adults.

The driver gets a typical modern instrument cluster in a rectangular touchscreen sitting along the dashboard so all the necessary information is obtained clearly.

There is a chunky multi-function steering wheel that keeps to the two-tone interior look.

Air-conditioning vents run along the length of the dashboard and the toggle A/C function switches look like they were borrowed from a Mini.

Gear selection is simple. Like other electric vehicles there is just reverse, neutral and drive which the driver commands with a simple rotary knob located in the centre console.

With compact, yet acceptable dimensions of 4,235 mm in length × 1,825 mm in width × 1,596 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, this EV is large enough for the average Malaysian family or the single adult looking for a stylish new emissions-free vehicle.

Ground clearance will be a good 120 mm. Up close, it is wider and taller than the popular Nissan Leaf EV, but slightly shorter.

Riding on 215/50 tyres fitted on 45.72 cm wheels, this EV wants to be more a crossover than a car.

With McPherson front suspension and the rear riding on a Torsion Beam, this ‘Cat’ should deliver sensible handling in the city.

The ORA ES11 is a front-wheel drive vehicle with a 105 kW electric motor.

Weighing in at 1,510 kg, this vehicle manages a 210 Nm of torque that allows an acceleration time from rest to 100km/h in 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 150km/h which should be avoided as our highways allow a maximum legal top speed of just 110km/h.

The Lithium Ion battery capacity is 47.8 kWh.

Nicknamed the ‘Good Cat’ it looks like Great Wall Motors in Malaysia will probably be launching this stylish EV in the coming months.
