KUALA LUMPUR:
School holidays often mean one thing for many Malaysian families – packing up for a quick escape, whether it is a food trip, a beach break,, or a cooler retreat away from the city heat.

This year, many appear to be keeping those plans closer to home, if recent accommodation search trends from Agoda are any indication.

The rankings, based on searches made between April 1 and 29 for stays from May 15-June 15, reflect the kinds of holidays families are gravitating towards this season: easy city staycations, heritage escapes, nature retreats and laid-back coastal getaways.

Here are the top five destinations.

1. Kuala Lumpur: The easy city staycation

Kuala Lumpur tops the list, with accommodation searches rising 45% compared to the same period last year. For many families, the capital remains an easy choice for a quick getaway without the hassle of long-distance travel.
