The film will be released globally by Universal Pictures starting April 3, 2026, with its Japan premiere scheduled for April 24. Select territories will follow throughout the month.
The returning cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Additional characters and voice actors will be revealed at a later date.
The new release follows “The Super Mario Bros Movie”, launched in 2023, which earned more than US$1.3 billion (RM5.43 billion).
While story details remain under wraps, the title is a nod to the classic 2007 Wii game “Super Mario Galaxy”.
To accompany the reveal, Nintendo announced during its latest Direct event that “Super Mario Galaxy” and “Super Mario Galaxy 2” will be re-released on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
The movie, which is co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures, brings back directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with Matthew Fogel writing the screenplay and Brian Tyler composing the score.
Illumination is headquartered in Santa Monica, California, while Nintendo is based in Kyoto, Japan.
