In a Facebook post published on Saturday, a 4PAWS manager who wished to be known as Murugan shared that their landlord is aiming to sell the property in Teluk Bahang, where the shelter is located.
4PAWS, therefore, hopes to raise some RM2.2 million to buy the property, which has served as a good home for the animals for over 15 years.
“We are doing our best to help and take care of our strays, but we cannot afford the amount they are asking for on our own,” Murugan told FMT Lifestyle.
“Please help us to save the shelter and our strays. Give us the chance to go ahead with our mission to reduce the strays on the streets of Penang.”
Every donation to 4PAWS will be subject to tax exemption, with receipts provided, he added.
According to Murugan, the shelter houses over 700 dogs from all over Penang island as well as from the mainland. Many are sick or hurt from accidents, or were abandoned or dumped by their owners.

He noted that 4PAWS is a no-kill shelter, meaning it houses and cares for homeless and abandoned animals until the end of their natural lives.
The six regular workers at 4PAWS perform a variety of tasks, including cooking, feeding, cleaning and upgrading the shelter. They also head out to rescue animals in emergency cases when they receive calls from the public.
The shelter’s donors and supporters regularly try to cover its bills and daily needs, but current donations are not enough for the operators to take over ownership of the property.
4PAWS has been given one month to inform the landowner of its intent to buy over the land. “We can only imagine what will happen to the strays if we cannot confirm the purchase of the property,” Murugan said.
“Let’s work hand-in-hand for a safe future for our animals. We think they deserve that. Every ringgit counts in the fight for the right of our strays.”
