On National Pet Day today, FMT Lifestyle spotlights five famous felines who have captured the hearts of Malaysians – while acknowledging that there are many others out there who are undeniably stars in the eyes of their humans.
1. King Oyen
With over 76,000 followers on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, it’s clear that King Oyen, a handsome ginger, is a cool cat who rules the internet.
During Ramadan, a video of him sitting quietly at the dining table while his family prayed before enjoying their sahur meal went viral, chalking up over 8 million views on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook!
Famed for always looking dapper, this American Shorthair and Persian mix also knows how to strike a pose for his adoring fans.
When he’s not melting hearts, he loves outdoor activities, particularly bicycle rides with his furparents, Mohd Salleh Zakaria and Siti Zalifah Abdul Aziz.
And true to his royal status, he enjoys Malaysia’s own “king of fruits” – the durian!

2. Baby

In November, Baby made Malaysia proud when she bagged the “World Winner” title in the “house cat long-hair category” at the Fédération Internationale Féline World Show, a Norwegian cat competition.
With her gorgeous eyes and silky fur, it’s easy to see why she won. While Baby is a seasoned competitor locally, this marked her first overseas competition, making her victory even more impressive.
Her furparents, Muhamad Shaharudin Shuib and Rooaida Mohd Darus, describe her as a patient cat who gets along well with her many feline siblings.
With her stunning looks and a gentle temperament, what’s not to love about this Baby?

3. Rocket

A former stray named Rocket was recently selected to be an ambassador for the clothing brand Bulan Bintang.
According to news reports, Rocket’s journey to fame began after his furmum shared a video of him struggling to fit into last year’s Raya outfit. The clip caught the eye of Bulan Bintang’s founder – a fellow cat lover – and the rest is fashion history.
Looking at the fashionable feline now, it’s hard to believe he was once a scruffy stray on the streets. From a stray to a model, where will Rocket blast off to next?

4. Jibek

Jibek is known for accompanying his furdad on running, hiking, paragliding and cycling adventures – and even night runs!
With over 83,000 followers on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, it’s clear this cutie has captured many hearts.
Fans particularly love seeing him perched adorably on his furdad’s shoulder during their outings, taking in his surroundings – and drawing smiles from people around him in the process.
One thing’s for sure: this cat is no couch potato!

5. Mei Mei

This Hari Raya, KFC launched its “Raya Meowriah” collection of festive outfits for cats. Their advertisement featured two adorable felines, including Mei Mei, a fluffy white beauty with blue eyes.
According to her Instagram profile, Mei Mei was born deaf – but she has a bold personality!
Despite being the smallest four-legged member of her family (she has two canine siblings), her furmum once playfully wondered on Instagram if Mei Mei just might be the future ruler of the house.
Indeed, Mei Mei’s Instagram feed is filled with photos of her in cute outfits. Judging by how photogenic she is, the KFC ad is likely just the beginning for her journey as a model!
