PETALING JAYA:
Most Malaysians rarely think about electricity — until a blackout happens.

For Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), staying out of the spotlight means they are doing their job well.

As the nation’s main electricity provider, TNB works around the clock to ensure stable power supply, keeping homes, businesses and industries running smoothly. Here’s a closer look at the efforts behind the scenes that keep Malaysia powered.

Preventing blackouts from happening

TNB has been investing heavily in modernising its infrastructure, making the power grid stronger and more resilient. This means fewer power interruptions, even in extreme weather conditions, ensuring Malaysians enjoy a steady flow of electricity.

Faster fixes, less downtime

When outages occur, TNB restores power faster than ever.

In 2024, the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) — which measures the average duration of power outages per customer — stood at 47.88 minutes, outperforming TNB’s target of 48 to 50 minutes. This reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to minimise disruptions and ensure more reliable power supply for homes and businesses.

Power anytime, rain or shine

Malaysia’s weather can be unpredictable, which is why TNB has reinforced its infrastructure in flood-prone and storm-prone areas to enhance reliability.

High-voltage networks ensure stable power supply, even during peak demand periods. This keeps businesses running and homes comfortable, with fewer power cuts during storms and heatwaves.

Smarter energy use with smart meters

TNB is also helping Malaysians take control of their electricity usage. More households now have smart meters, allowing users to track their energy consumption in real-time and make informed decisions to reduce waste.

Currently, 70% of TNB customers use the myTNB app and by using it effectively, consumers can avoid bill shocks and manage costs effectively.

A greener future, same reliable power

Looking ahead, TNB is implementing more AI-driven automation to detect and prevent outages even faster.

Additionally, TNB is expanding its renewable energy initiatives, ensuring sustainable and reliable power supply for the future.

The company is committed to ensuring a seamless shift to greener energy sources without compromising electricity supply stability for Malaysians.
