PARIS:
According to information reported by Bloomberg, Apple is preparing a major redesign of its iOS, iPadOS and macOS operating systems, scheduled to be unveiled in the fall.

The idea is to harmonise all the manufacturer’s operating systems, taking inspiration from the firm’s latest addition, visionOS, dedicated to mixed reality.

The main changes planned would affect the icons, menus, applications, windows and system buttons.

The Camera would also benefit from a revamped interface, based on two main modes – Photo and Video – with controls repositioned for more intuitive use.

By taking inspiration from visionOS, Apple is reportedly seeking to make its operating systems more coherent, with a more modern and consistent design, regardless of the device used.

Visually, they will feature numerous semi-transparent elements and should offer more intuitive window management.

In addition, new gestures could also be introduced to make interaction even smoother on smartphones and tablets.

This refresh comes in response to criticism regarding the lack of visual evolution of these interfaces in recent years.

This update should also allow for the best possible integration of future features related to Apple Intelligence (including the next version of Siri, expected by 2027).

Any changes in store will no doubt be unveiled at Apple’s WWDC Developer Conference in June 2025. This would be the most significant update for Macs since macOS Big Sur (2020) and for the iPhone since iOS 7 (2013).
