The 34-year-old singer, who wishes only to be known as Roy, has also managed to capture the attention of netizens, with many anticipating the latest videos of his quirky street performances on TikTok.

Roy, who hails from Tasek Gelugor, Penang, said he began busking about 15 years ago. He started with a group before venturing out on his own in 2023.

“I shared videos of my singing on TikTok last year, and my followers increased after some of my videos made it to the FYP (For You Page, where popular videos are presented).

“From there, more people began to take an interest in my busking style. Now I’m getting opportunities to perform at events such as weddings, and my weekends are fully booked until July.”

Roy, who works as a factory technician, said he has been a fan of Spider-Man since childhood. He owns 15 sets of the superhero costume.

“Wearing the complete outfit is quite troublesome as it takes me longer to get ready at a venue, especially since I also wear an undershirt, which can initially be uncomfortable and makes me sweat. Thankfully, after a while I get used to it and it becomes comfortable,” Roy shared.

“While my intention is to entertain adults, wearing the costume is also an easy way to attract children’s attention. At the very least, they can take pictures with me,” he added.

Despite his popularity, Roy said he has no intention of becoming a professional singer as he sings “just for fun and personal satisfaction”.

“Although I receive positive responses from netizens who think I have the potential to become a famous singer, I know my vocal capability. Busking is just a hobby.

“Plus, I already have a permanent job, so I am comfortable with things as they are now,” said Roy, who enjoys performing rock songs from the ’90s.
