PARIS:
While the estimated number of Dry January participants has yet to be officially announced, its vegan counterpart – encouraging consumers to try out an entirely plant-based diet – has seen record participation in 2025, even from Malaysians.

Just as Dry January encourages people to give up alcohol for the first month of the year, Veganuary aims to get people to adopt new eating habits by going completely vegan for one month.

For the first time since the initiative’s launch, a record 25.8 million people worldwide pledged to try a vegan diet this year, according to the Veganuary campaign, the official body overseeing this annual challenge globally.

And this figure only covers the 11 countries surveyed by market researchers YouGov, which conducted polls in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Switzerland, Chile, Canada, Brazil and the USA.

This fine performance is boosted by the first participation of Malaysia, Peru and Canada in the initiative.

And the success of the movement in 2025 should not stop there, since the Chinese adaptation of Veganuary – known as V-March – should give the 2025 campaign even greater impetus.

Indeed, the China Vegan Society has decided to ask residents to try going vegan for the entire month of March. In China, it’s not possible to observe Veganuary in January, when the Lunar New Year takes place between January and early February.

Veganuary is now present in some 20 countries around the world, including the UK, USA, Germany, Chile, Argentina, India, Spain, Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and Canada.
