This is the unmistakable scent of Wawasan Fried Chicken, a humble food stall, run by 68-year-old Poh Tin and her two sons, whose fried chicken has become a local legend.
Every day, like clockwork, the family prepares close to 600 pieces of fried chicken. On Saturdays, the number jumps to an astonishing 800 pieces.
Make sure to come here early as a line starts forming the moment Poh Tin opens her stall, with people patiently waiting for their turn to grab a piece – or several – of her tasty chicken. And it’s easy to see why.
Each piece is fried to perfection, with a crunchy, golden-brown exterior that gives way to tender, juicy meat inside. The seasoning is subtle yet addictive, a perfect balance of salt and spices that doesn’t overpower the natural flavour of the chicken. Every bite offers a satisfying crunch packed with flavour.
The real star of the business is Poh Tin’s husband. “The recipe is actually my husband’s. It’s an original family recipe that he perfected,” the Klang-born shared with FMT Lifestyle.

The chicken is sold at RM4 for drumsticks and thighs, while larger portions are priced at RM8.
To keep up with the high demand, Poh Tin’s husband fries batches of chicken at home, delivering them to the food truck throughout the day. Meanwhile, her sons work alongside her at the stall, frying additional batches on-site. Together, the trio ensure that every customer leaves with a hot batch.
This commitment to quality has been the key to Wawasan Fried Chicken’s success.
What started as a humble nasi lemak stall at the morning market, followed by a stint at a nearby food court, blossomed into a thriving business when the family moved their operation to the kerbside six years ago.
Now, the stall has become a beloved local fixture, attracting regulars and newcomers alike, all eager for the family’s signature fried chicken.
For Poh Tin, though, Wawasan Fried Chicken is more than just a business – it’s her pride and joy. While her sons help run the stall, it’s clear that she is the heart of the operation.
With her warm smile and no-nonsense efficiency, Poh Tin keeps things moving, making sure everyone gets their fried chicken fix without too long of a wait.

Despite the long hours and high demand, she’s always smiling and offering a kind word to every customer, no matter how long the line. And it’s this personal touch that adds to the sense of community here.
“I love doing this. I love chatting with my customers,” she enthused.
In a world dominated by fast food chains, there’s something deeply comforting about Poh Tin’s small operation. It’s a reminder that the most meaningful meals are often the simplest.
And that, perhaps, is why so many people keep coming back – not just for the fried chicken but for the heart behind it.
