Imagine a landscape of mountain ranges, peaks reflected in the crystal-clear waters of picturesque lakes; a welcoming culture and a way of life where everything seems easy. This is what many people think life in Canada will be like – and they might not be entirely wrong.
In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s recently released 2024 Global Liveability Index, Canada features twice, with Calgary (5th) and Vancouver (8th) among the top 10 most livable cities in the world.
So it’s hardly surprising to learn that Canada is the world’s most desirable country for people looking to relocate: it is the nation that generates the most relocation searches, based on Google data.
The second-most desirable country is Australia, which has two major cities identified as most liveable: Melbourne (4th) and Sydney (7th). Reasons for this choice could be language-related, since it is mostly folks in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Ireland who dream of a new life Down Under.
Europe, too, holds appeal for international relocation with Spain being the third most-searched country in the world, ahead of Germany and the UK.
These are the top 10 most-liveable cities, according to the Global Liveability Index:
