This year, artificial intelligence will be central to the event, as Apple is expected to unveil its plans in this field. A first integration is expected in iOS, with more to come.
The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place at Apple Park from June 10 to 14, 2024. As every year, this event will be an opportunity to discover the main new features to come from iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS.
Developers from all over the world will be able to get a glimpse of the new tools, infrastructures and functionalities available to them. But this year, all eyes are on AI.
On the AI front, Google has already taken the lead, announcing that it will soon be possible to perform a search at any time, from any format (video, photo, text), without necessarily having to switch applications.
Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has become the very first smartphone to exploit other possibilities of Gemini, Google’s multimodal language model.
Apple, in turn, is poised to announce the arrival of AI-powered features, starting with iOS. Numerous American media outlets have reported on a possible partnership with Google to bring Gemini to the iPhone with iOS 18. In China, Apple could be collaborating with Baidu.
In any case, it seems unlikely that the Cupertino-based company will launch its own intelligent conversational assistant to compete with ChatGPT and counterparts.
Still, it remains to be seen what will become of Ferret, the multimodal language that Apple presented at the beginning of the year, which still requires a great deal of development before it can be officially deployed.
On the hardware front, the forthcoming M3 Ultra chip, which will equip the brand’s next desktop computers, could be presented.
Whether you’re a developer or not, if you can’t make it to the event, you can still follow the conference from its dedicated website: developer.apple.com/wwdc24.
