Nestled in the northern embrace of peninsular Malaysia, this charming state may be small, but there’s little doubt it’s full of surprises.
Bordered by Thailand to the north and Kedah to the south, Perlis is unlike any state in the country thanks to its unique geography. Vast expanses of paddy fields stretch for kilometres, framed by the majestic backdrop of limestone formations.
The landscape alone is a teaser for the diverse experiences Perlis has in store. From mystical caves to breathtaking sunrises, here are four locations and activities that make Perlis a must-visit for nature enthusiasts.

Gua Wang Burma: a natural wonder
If the idea of squeezing through narrow, wet passages and tunnels excites your inner adventurer, you’re in for a treat. Gua Wang Burma, located near the Malaysia-Thailand border, is Perlis’ very own natural masterpiece.
Composed of limestone dating back an astounding 370-490 million years ago, this cave stands as a geological wonder.
Marvel at the unique rock formations: pristine white stalactites hanging from the ceiling; rising stalagmites on the floor; deposits of mineral-rich water dripping over millions of years.
For thrill seekers, Gua Wang Burma is your ultimate playground as the journey involves some serious acrobatics: crawling, crouching, and duck-walking through its intricate passages!

Wang Kelian Viewpoint: sunrise to start the day
Rise and shine with the ultimate morning show at Wang Kelian Viewpoint. Popular among locals and tourists alike, this lookout is perched 304m above sea level.
After a 30-minute journey from Kangar, winding through tranquil towns and villages, go on a short morning hike that leads you to the perfect vantage point just in time for a breathtaking sunrise over Perlis.

Savour the cool morning breeze as you marvel at the landscape, adorned with cloud carpets, winding roads, and rolling hills.
The viewpoint also has more Instagrammable spots than you can count. Thanks to the convenient and spacious platform, you won’t have any trouble capturing lasting memories.
Rimba Herba Perlis: nature’s pharmacy
Home to a diverse collection of medicinal plants, this botanical haven is not your average garden stroll: it’s a vibrant showcase of 721 herb species.
Rimba Herba Perlis is home to indigenous plants as well as those brought from other locations, including overseas. A rich tapestry of healing flora, the extensive collection includes Tongkat Ali, Kacip Fatimah, cekur, ginger, lemongrass, basil, cinnamon, and much more.
The sanctuary takes you through 12 themed sections, like the “cancer garden” and the “gout site”, each revealing the unique stories and properties of these medicinal plants.

For example, did you know that boiling the leaves of the asam gelugur, native to Malaysia, and drinking its water is believed to have cancer-healing properties? This is just one of the many hidden secrets right in our own backyard, often overlooked by city folks.
Plus, here’s a bonus: after a day of adventuring, treat yourself to an oil foot massage at Rimba Herba Perlis – the perfect way to end the day!
