PARIS:
It was the big event of the weekend: Super Bowl LVIII saw the Kansas City Chiefs win the title.

Tight end Travis Kelce, who has recently been in the spotlight because of his relationship with singer Taylor Swift, made news for a heated exchange with his coach, caught by cameras.

It’s a moment that quickly became a meme on social network X, if not THE Super Bowl meme of 2024.

On Sunday, Feb 11, his team won the Super Bowl, giving him his third ring. But Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs took spectators by surprise with an outburst aimed at his coach Andy Reid caught on film.

The player appeared to yell at and even shove his coach, after he decided to replace Kelce during the second quarter of the game, a decision the tight end did not appreciate.

The spat, immortalised and transmitted by numerous cameras, did not go unnoticed by viewers who quickly drew inspiration from the clip to compare it to a host of scenarios.

On social network X, (formerly Twitter), users had a field day commenting on the anger of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend and even comparing it to their own reactions. “Me begging my dad to take me to Chili’s,” was how the famous restaurant chain spun the clip on their account.

And yet, there was no “bad blood” between the player and his coach. According to the Huffington Post, Travis Kelce declared, with a touch of humour, after the match: “I was just telling him how much I loved him.”

Meanwhile, Coach Reid called the exchange a “cheap shot” but understood the gesture. “It keeps me young,” he told a press conference attended by USA Today after the game.
