PETALING JAYA:
Calling all Malaysian artists and creatives! The Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) is inviting you to come up with imaginative tributes to Tokyo and its unique narratives in the form of “The Tokyoiter” magazine covers.

Selected artists will collaborate with the foundation to produce the final prints for “The Tokyoiter Exhibition”, slated to run from Jan 20-Feb 4.

Inspired by the artworks featured on the covers of “The New Yorker” and “The Parisianer”, “The Tokyoiter” is a collection of faux magazine covers that celebrate Tokyo and illustration. For further examples, click here.

Submissions, as such, should reflect or be inspired by elements of the city’s rich culture, and participants must have spent some time there, even if just for the short term.

Malaysians aged 18 and above who are still based here may apply, but do attach a photo from your time in the Land of the Rising Sun as proof of your visit!

The panel of judges include Andrew Joyce and David Robert from “The Tokyoiter”, graphic designer Kenta Chai, and KL-based visual artist and designer C C Kua.

Winners will be notified by Dec 22 and will also receive RM1,000 and a certificate. The deadline for application is Sunday, Dec 10, so get cracking!
