Despite initial concerns regarding the quality of online learning, Khaw began seeing tangible results from her Master’s programme which helped to optimise her son’s study habits, and enabled her to become a more effective senior mentor at her workplace.
Introducing ‘nano-learning’
To accommodate remote learners, Taylor’s 100% Online Postgraduate Programmes utilise “nano-learning” in its curriculum – where a typical hour-long lecture is segmented into smaller parts. Khaw said this approach made it easier for her to study, especially when she was under pressure from a busy schedule.

“The course is planned out in a way that is both time-efficient and effective for me to engage with, as if every angle has been accounted for when it comes to convenience for its learners,” she shared.
In general, “nano-learning” content is broken down into 25 to 30 bite-sized multimedia formats including short-form videos, infographics and checkpoint quizzes, with no more than five minutes for each topic. The diversity and simplicity of the content ensure that the programme is engaging, while providing a concise learning experience.
“After a long and tiring day, it would be very easy for me to lose interest when reading a lengthy block of text. Condensed content like the short videos and especially the summary of important points makes it easier for me to stay focused during those late nights,” Khaw added.

A seamless online learning experience
Taylor’s 100% Online Postgraduate Programmes also have all lecture slides, reading materials and important dates readily accessible on their website for added convenience. “Whether it was additional reading material or marking schemes, it was easy to find information I needed on the online learning platform,” Khaw said.
All learning material is also given at the start of the semester, which helped Khaw plan her schedule effectively while juggling her responsibilities as a mother and a working professional.
“If I am expecting a busy week, I can always study the material ahead of time to make up for it, which helps with staying on track with studies on top of managing family and work responsibilities.”
Networking digitally
Khaw was pleasantly surprised when her online classes had more peer-teacher interaction than she expected, dispelling a myth that many people have about online learning.
“Questions are often asked and answered during online classes, and we are usually given a dedicated time for discussions between our peers as well as with our lecturers. It is quite smooth – similar to what you would expect from a regular face-to-face class.”

Taylor’s University also hosts yearly digital events and networking sessions such as roundtables, forums and webinars that connect postgraduate students to a strong Asian network consisting of like-minded peers and seasoned industry professionals.
