BMW promises an unrivalled level of protection, with vehicles theoretically resistant to any firearm and even explosives, while maintaining a level of driving comfort and interior space worthy of the best sedans on the market.

As the world’s first all-electric protection sedan, the BMW i7 Protection features a protective core consisting of an armoured steel body structure combined with additional underbody and roof armouring.

In addition to making the vehicle particularly safe, this system also slightly increases cabin space.

As for the windows, they are of course made of armoured glass, which is said to protect even against large-calibre military ammunition.

As for the tires, supplied by Michelin, they feature a run-flat ring on the wheel rim, enabling the car to continue driving at up to 80 km/h, even in the event of a total loss of pressure.

In addition, the combustion-engine-powered BMW 7 Series Protection features a self-sealing fuel tank with a special casing that closes after being hit by a bullet to prevent loss of fuel.

This means that, in principle, the occupants are protected against drone attacks and fragments scattered by hand grenades. In fact, these models have already been tested by experts from an independent state testing institute against gunfire and various explosions.

These protective sedans offer tailor-made protection in armed attack scenarios, and can be fitted with a fresh-air supply system, a sprinkler system, flashing lights and even flagpoles for official vehicles, depending on customer requirements.

For the rest, they feature the same driving aids and various options as the classic 7 Series and i7 models.

BMW has been producing protection vehicles for over 40 years, and the i7 Protection is the first all-electric model of its kind.

The BMW 7 Series and i7 Protection are due to be unveiled to the public at the forthcoming International Motor Show Germany (IAA Mobility), running from Sept 5-10, 2023, in Munich. The first customised deliveries are expected by December.
