SINGAPORE:
Legendary silver-screen actor Wahid Satay has died at age 93.

Wahid, whose real name was Abdul Wahid Ahmad, passed away at about 8.15am at his granddaughter’s house, according to his second daughter Hafizah.

She said her father’s health began to decline two weeks ago after he was discharged from Changi Hospital for diabetes-related treatment.

“He had been bedridden since two weeks ago. He also suffered from high blood pressure and heart disease,” she told Bernama.

Hafizah said her father would be buried at the Pusara Aman Muslim cemetery here after zohor prayers.

Wahid’s death was confirmed by family friend Rusedah Tawahid, according to Berita Harian Online. The portal added that the veteran actor had died at “his house in Eunos Crescent”.

Wahid was born in Riau, Indonesia, on Jan 1, 1930 and moved to Singapore when he was five. His numerous film credits include “Pak Pandir Moden”, “Masuk Angin Keluar Asap”, “Serangan Orang Minyak”, and “Rasa Sayang Eh”.

He had his first acting role in 1957’s “Pontianak”, produced by Singapore’s Cathay Keris studios, where he started his career the year before as a set painter.

Wahid’s final movie credit was in the Malaysian-made science-fiction comedy “Senario XX” (2005), in which he played the Tok Ketua Penghulu.
