KUALA LUMPUR:
“Age is just a number” is an age-old cliché, but that is until you see a band of over 50s rocking to the golden tunes of their youth.

Meet TENAcity – a band formed with the purpose of spreading the message of ageing actively, aiming to inspire all Malaysians to live their best lives, now; and that age is not a factor.

The quartet, Gerard Singh, 56 (Vocals/Bass), Colin Thaddeus Jansen, 60 (Guitar), Raymond Chia, 52 (Keyboards), and Mark George Felix, 56 (Drums) were chosen – out of a total of 111 talented musicians across the nation – for their impressive musicianship, showmanship and technical brilliance.

The panel of judges also included celebrated Malaysian artistes, Manbai and Reshmonu.

As a reward for being ‘band ambassadors’ for TENA – a world renowned brand of healthcare products for seniors – and carrying the message of enjoying one’s golden years to the fullest, they were awarded the grand prize of RM60,000.

Gerard expressed the band’s delight at being chosen by TENA, and hopes that their passion for music can inspire other seniors to prioritise physical and mental health. “The importance of maintaining an active lifestyle cannot be overstated, especially as one grows older,” he said.

“We appreciate TENA’s efforts in creating an avenue for older Malaysians to stay active, as there are often few options available to this demographic,” he added.

Gerard (Vocals/Bass), Colin (Guitar), Raymond (Keyboards), and Mark (Drums) ready to share the message of active ageing to all Malaysians through music.

Vinda Group SEA president Su Ting Nee said they were encouraged by the turnout of the TENAcity band search and that so many were eager to be a part of the active ageing movement.

“It was both a humbling and an unforgettable experience, witnessing this group of Malaysians put their heart and soul out there on the stage today. We witnessed some good performances and can’t wait for TENAcity to take the story of active ageing to more Malaysians.

“We couldn’t have chosen a better group to represent our brand and message. They are truly a testament and embodiment of active ageing, and I am excited to share them with the rest of the nation,” he stated.

“It is vital that we reach out to as many Malaysians as possible. We want to show Malaysians of all backgrounds that TENA is always here to support them to live their lives ‘tenaciously’, unhindered by factors like age and socioeconomic status to continue their legacy,” said Su.

“Throughout this tour, we will also be working with Malaysian NGOs and other organisations to further strengthen our message and bolster our efforts in advocating active ageing,” he added.

TENAcity will embark on a tour of Malaysia starting June 2023, kicking off with a performance in Shah Alam followed by Penang, Ipoh, Kuantan, Johor Bahru and finally back in Petaling Jaya.
