The 23-year-old, who received overwhelming support for this fan-voted prize, credited her team back home and her followers for this milestone.
“Thank you so much to the California Music Video Awards for this honour,” she said. “I am all the way from Malaysia and am so honoured that my song, ‘Attention Island’, has received this award.
“I am sure everyone in this room understands that it is a cumulative effort between people in the crew, the production studio, and the artist to make one music video or a song successful.”
Organised by US-based media company TasteTV, the California Music Video Awards recognises outstanding artistes, music videos, films and directors from around the world.
This is the second win for “Attention Island”, following its Best Music Video (Bronze) achievement at the Global Music Awards in San Diego in 2022.
No stranger to success at such a young age, her composition “Feel Alive” also won in the Best of North America pop category at the InterContinental Music Awards Competition last year.
“Attention Island”, Heerraa’s first R&B single, talks about “the dangers of pursuing fame and the limelight if you are not anchored on who you are and not grounded on your heart”.
“So, I am glad my music gets to reach out to the world. Thank you for giving my song a little attention,” said the singer, who is pursuing a Liberal Arts degree at Harvard University Extension School and made the journey to San Francisco from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to receive the award in person.
