PETALING JAYA:
This festive season, World Vision Malaysia (WVM) is calling on Malaysians to “be the light at the end of the tunnel” for children, families, and communities in need.

To that end, the international humanitarian organisation has launched its “Gift of Hope” catalogue, which features a selection of practical, life-changing gifts that will provide lasting solutions for vulnerable children, families, and communities.

Malaysians are invited to select gifts they wish to provide to those in need, from the following categories in the catalogue:

1. Light for Children

This encompasses items aimed at providing children with the means to proper nutrition, healthy lifestyles, and better learning experiences.

Gifts include bicycles, nutritious meals, school bags and stationery, educational resources, and sports equipment.

2. Light for Families

This features specially curated gifts such as seedlings, tools, and food packages to help families elevate their livelihoods and provide a sustainable source of income that will build the foundation for a better future.

Other offerings for those in farming communities include cows and livestock training, duck rearing, and fish farming.

3. Light for Communities

These are practical and tangible gifts like wheelchairs and lights aimed at meeting a community’s basic needs and equipping them for a sustainable future.

Toilets and clean-water handwashing stations will help improve hygiene and sanitation, and boost standards of living.

The goal is to remove barriers, keep families healthy, and promote a safe environment.

Sing for the season

WVM will also be spreading Christmas joy with its World Vision Malaysia Hope Choir, comprising the organisation’s staff and volunteers, which will perform at Lalaport @ Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur (this Saturday, Dec 10 at 3.30pm and 5.30pm), and IPC Shopping Centre in Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya (Dec 17 and 18 at 5pm).

“As the country and world recover from the pandemic, we invite Malaysians to share hope and light with those in greater need,” said WVM’s chief executive officer, Terry Leong.

“While these gifts may not seem extraordinary, you’d be surprised by the impact they have on the recipients.

“Our selection of curated gifts goes beyond the festive season – they are life and life-giving gifts that last for generations to come.”
