Aneesha Kaur Sidhu, 22, and Bryan Tiew Guan Hoe, 19, pounced on the chance to apply for a scholarship from Advance Tertiary College (ATC) and were elated when they got chosen.
FMT recently caught up with them to learn more about their experiences.
Aneesha from Shah Alam, who is the youngest of three siblings, said it was seamless and easy to register for the University of London programme. And she was beside herself with joy when she received her scholarship offer letter within 24 hours.
Aneesha explained: “I come from a less privileged background and faced many financial and academic challenges, but that past also helped me realise the value of a college education.
“This scholarship is allowing me to focus on my academics more. I now have fewer financial concerns and more time to study. This gives me a greater chance to succeed academically,” she said, adding that she was deeply appreciative of ATC’s support.

She also said that ATC’s interactive education offers students a fun way to learn as they are encouraged to express their thoughts and opinions during tutorials.
She said she was also excited about ATC’s entertaining TikTok account where students can participate in educational videos.
Having her heart set on working in a top legal firm when she graduates, Aneesha said she was leaning on her strengths in logical reasoning and persuasiveness, which she believed were beneficial for the profession.
“Law resolves many societal issues and I want to be a part of the solution. I see a future where I can grow into the person I want to become and leave a positive impact wherever I go. Pursuing this education is a major part of my journey towards that goal,” she added.
Meanwhile, scholarship recipient Tiew from Kuala Lumpur said he was pleased that ATC was located so close to the KLCC LRT station, as it would make his daily commute to college that much easier.
“The scholarship has helped reduce the financial burden on my family who were heavily affected by Covid as we couldn’t operate our family business.”
Elated to receive his scholarship confirmation letter within three days, he added, “It would’ve been much harder without the scholarship as I would have had to take on a part time job over the weekends.”

Although Tiew faced some minor challenges when studying for the foundation programme, he said he was grateful for the ATC scholarship worth RM10,000 that he received based on his SPM results.
“I recognise the high quality of education that ATC is providing and even when the coursework gets a bit tough, I’m thankful to have lecturers that are understanding and supportive.
“And despite the serious nature of our subject matter, classes are still a lot of fun with lecturers using humour to keep things lighter and livelier.”
With ambitions to be lawyers, both Aneesha and Tiew are well on their way towards fulfilling their dreams; both exemplifying how being ready to act when an opportunity arises delivers rewarding results.
