Additionally, two more secured conditional placements in Ivy league universities, four secured offers from University of California, Berkeley, and another eight from the University of California Los Angeles in the US.
According to KYUEM, more are expected to secure placements in some of the best universities in the world, continuing the momentum from last year when almost 80% of the students met the grade requirements of top universities in the UK, US, Australia and Ireland.

Many of these students who go through KYUEM’s 24-month and 18-month A-Level programmes get offers from prestigious universities such as the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, London School of Economics (LSE), Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, University of Warwick, University of Bristol, Australian National University, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne and UNSW.
Over the years, KYUEM has also seen its students securing placements in Ivy League universities in the US such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Pennsylvania and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The achievements of these students are largely attributed to the teaching quality, university application guidance and rich boarding school experience.
Located in Lembah Beringin about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur, the resort-style campus provides a serene and conducive environment for studying and personal development.

Teaching quality
KYUEM students are taught by highly qualified teachers, 60% of whom hold post graduate qualifications while 74% have over 10 years of subject-specific experience. Some of the teachers are from the UK, US, Germany and Hungary.
At present the student to teacher ratio is only 10:1.
KYUEM’s curriculum features 11 A-Level subjects namely mathematics, further mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, marine science, English literature, history, geography, economics and accounting.
Teaching and learning take place in modern, well-equipped classrooms, laboratories and lecture theatres, with digital and textual academic materials available to students at the resource centre.
These facilities are augmented by a “Cyber Lounge” and a “Net Zone” set aside for student-centred group learning.

Academic performance
In 2021, 92% of KYUEM students achieved A* to B grades and almost 60% achieved straight As. A*, also known as “A star” is the highest grade level that can be achieved for a subject in the A-Level programme.
CAIE AS and full A-Level examinations are endorsed by over 130 countries and registers over 500,000 subject entries per year.
KYUEM students have been recognised as Outstanding Cambridge Learners on 65 occasions over the last seven years when examinations took place; 33 times as Top in the World and 32 times as Top in Malaysia.
Rich student experience
KYUEM students are known to develop a sense of esprit de corps from the activities in which they participate outside the classroom. Like all facets of life, college experience must strike a good balance between study and play.
Students get to be involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities in clubs and societies, inter-house tournaments and sports.

According to alumnus Hazim Mohamad who is a graduate of the University of Warwick and MIT, the time he spent in KYUEM was the best two years of his student life.
“Amidst the serenity of the verdant uplands, I was able to see the world through the clearest of lenses. It was a place of opportunities, hopes and dreams,” he said.
All students are assigned to a pastoral tutor in a ‘house system’ overseen by the College’s Students’ Services Department. Every student is also represented by an elected student counsellor.
Hazim added that the support system in the college was superior. Whether it was trying out a new hobby, applying for university, or starting a national conference, he learnt that nothing was beyond reach when you have the right people to guide you.
Hazim went on to serve in the World Bank after graduation and he just co-founded ‘Counselab’, an advisory platform for youngsters, in Silicon Valley.

Resort style campus
Every student is provided with a comfortable individual room in air-conditioned chalets and apartments surrounded by lush greenery.
Students may take their meals either in the dining hall or cafeteria. There is also a sickbay staffed by three matrons, a surau authorised for Friday prayers, and a 1,000-seating capacity hall.
The 50-acre campus has numerous facilities for students. Sports enthusiasts will love the Olympic-sized swimming pool, multi-purpose hall and weight-training room.
There are also several outdoor courts and a large playing field for football and rugby.
While KYUEM students are encouraged to develop independently, strong support is provided in the form of pastoral care by tutors, teachers, house parents, a counsellor and peer groups.

“Being surrounded by a group of not just extremely driven but also supportive high-achieving students is definitely a unique aspect of KYUEM,” said Muiz Zafri Mustamir, a Shell scholar currently studying in KYUEM.
He added that the high level of competitiveness keeps him on his toes in finding ways to add value to his personal journey which includes attaining admissions to top ranking universities and beyond.
