1. Bignonia capreolata: smell the coffee

Commonly known as the crossvine, this plant is a native of the southeastern United States and grows pretty red trumpets with a small yellow sunburst. It has a surprising mocha, chocolate or coffee aroma.

2. Cosmos atrosanguineus: the sweet aroma of chocolate

Hailing from Mexico, this sweet-smelling flower blooms from June to October with a delicious chocolate smell. It starts off almost black before turning a deep purple-red. The so-called “chocolate cosmos” is a delightful little plant to try in a pot.

3. Helichrysum italicum: tasty, exotic curry

The aromatic curry plant can withstand even heat waves. (Wikipedia pic)

Also known as immortelle or curry plant, this shrub-like flora with gray evergreen foliage and yellow flowers smells just like curry. Its flowers could almost be mistaken for mimosa flowers, but immortelle grows in bushes, close to the ground, rather than on a tree.

4. Lemon verbena: a tangry citrus crush

This little-known perennial shrub is often used in herbal teas or potpourri. It gives off a deliciously delicate lemon smell and bears some resemblance to its cousin, lemon balm. Its leaves bring a subtle citrus scent to gardens and interiors.
