FMT in partnership with The Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) brings you a Covid-19 “healer” from Spain.

Raul Reyes is a volunteer with the Cantabria Bicycle Association (Cantabria ConBici).

When the pandemic first broke out in Spain, the government was quick to decree a mandatory quarantine for its people, with aims of controlling the spread of Covid-19. But this had an adverse effect on many poor families, especially in Santander.

To make matters worse, many of these families do not have access to a stable internet connection at home, thereby preventing and limiting their kids from participating in online classes.

Thankfully, Reyes and his teammates from the association were quick to aid families there.

He and his team worked hard to help bring the kids’ homework to their homes, to help give some form of continuity to the affected families.

During the confinement, the association also helped distribute food and basic necessities using their many bicycles, promoting a cheap and environmentally-friendly way of getting to these families around the city of Santander.

Joaquin was born in Santander, Spain. He began working as a freelance photographer doing reports on social content and dedicating himself to press photography. He has collaborated with numerous local and national newspapers, agencies as well as various magazines. In addition, he dedicates himself to teaching by giving workshops and photography courses.
