
Malaysians are enamoured with all things Korean, from K-pop to K-drama and K-beauty. But this diverse country, with its affordable cost of living and incredible food, also boasts an impressive higher education system.
If you are looking to further your studies abroad, South Korea is worth considering. Here are 10 scholarships that you can apply for, although keep in mind that conditions might be affected by the pandemic.
1. Korean government scholarship
The Korean government offers full scholarships covering tuition fees and living expenses to attract more international students. You can apply to further your studies at any university affiliated with this programme through the selected university’s website or through the Korean Embassy in Malaysia. 2. Seoul National University
Seoul National University is one of the country’s “Ivy League” institutions alongside Yonsei University and Korea University, known collectively as SKY universities. It offers full scholarships for undergraduate, master’s and doctorate programmes.
3. Yonsei University
Yonsei University has a college exclusively for international students known as Underwood International College, where all classes are taught in English. Full scholarships are offered for undergraduate study only.
4. Korea University
Korea University has campuses in Seoul and Sejong, and is a non-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) majors university where courses are more focused on the humanities, business and political sciences. Scholarships cover full tuition at the undergraduate, master’s and PhD levels.

5. KAIST
The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, or KAIST, is located in Seoul. It is the first public research university in science and technology, with substantial allocations from the government and companies such as Samsung and Hyundai. Courses are taught in English and full scholarships are available for all levels of study.
6. Hanyang University
This private university in Seoul was the first to offer engineering and architecture degrees in Korea. It has produced many successful alumni, including the chairman and CEO of Hyundai Motors. Hanyang University offers partial and full scholarships for undergraduates, as well as full scholarships for postgraduates.
7. Kyung Hee University
Kyung Hee University is considered the best private university in Korea. It is known for its medical faculty, which combines Asian and Western methods. Full scholarships are available for its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
8. Hankuk University
Hankuk University is renowned in the field of foreign studies such as language, international relations and international law. It also offers courses in engineering, science and business. Full scholarships are available.
9. Inha University
Inha University in Incheon is ranked the fourth-best university in the field of engineering, and also offers courses in business, social sciences, education and liberal arts. It offers full scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

10. PosTech
Pohang University of Science & Technology (PosTech) is located in Gyeongbuk province and runs in collaboration with Posco, one of Korea’s leading companies in steelmaking. Students can major in a range of science degrees such as humanities and social science, physics, mathematics and chemistry. PosTech offers fully funded scholarships that are subsidised by the government.
