Sierra Leone: filmmaker inspires storytelling among locals

When Covid-19 spread to West Africa, one filmmaker decided to use the downtime to teach the art of filmmaking to local youngsters.

FMT in partnership with The Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) brings you a Covid-19 “healer” from Sierra Leone.

Alfred Sankoh is a filmmaker and entrepreneur running a multimedia business in the central part of Freetown, Sierra Leone.

When his business was shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Alfred decided to join the fight against the virus by teaming up with his fellow filmmaker to produce “Denial”: a short film that has been played by television stations across the country.

As a passionate filmmaker, Alfred has reached out to communities to train young people on how to tell their stories through film.

He conducted training sessions in Makeni and Bo in Sierra Leone, teaching a total of sixteen aspiring filmmakers.
