FMT in partnership with The Global Institute For Tomorrow (GIFT) brings you a Covid-19 “healer” from Mauritania.

Aïcha Bâ is the second deputy mayor of the municipality of Sebkha, in the capital Nouakchott.

She works tirelessly into the night to make sure that the public structures under her watch are properly disinfected by the evening cleaning team.

Her team has just finished disinfecting one of the biggest mosques of the commune, from carpets to walls and doors. Aïcha is one of the major forces behind the cross-sector response to Covid-19.

The next day, she is busy distributing food supplies like oil, rice and sugar to the 300 poorest families in Sebkha.

Along with Hameth, her assistant, she also accompanied the morning crews installing a mobile faucet in the main market of the commune, and disinfecting both the commune’s court and police station.
