Fat Olive dishes out a feast of Spanish delicacies

This restaurant serves delicious Spanish fare that is certain to satisfy even the pickiest eater.

The Mixed Tapas Platter is enough to feed a group of four ravenous people.
KUALA LUMPUR:
If you are looking to treat your family or friends to superior quality and exquisite flavours, head on over to Fat Olive Food Garage in Mont Kiara for an extravagant Mediterranean spread made from the freshest ingredients and cooked with love.

Fat Olive’s fare can sate even the pickiest eater, with its pizzas, platters, tapas and burgers. The restaurant itself is welcoming with a spacious interior, adorned with an industrial look and feel of recycled wood and steel.

Before ordering your food, treat yourself to a glass of Sangria, an invigorating fruit punch infused with red wine. It is an excellent fruity cocktail that will put you right in the mood for a hearty meal.

The interior of Fat Olive has an industrial look and feel to it.

If you have come with company, do call for the massive Mixed Tapas Platter. Capable of feeding two to four people, it comes with generous servings of sourdough bread and cold cuts of Serrano Ham, Iberico Chorizo and Salami.

A word of caution when trying the deep-fried calamari. These morsels of seafood are so addictive you will be quite powerless to stop yourself from stuffing them in your mouth in quick succession.

The smoked chicken croquettes with its long skewers that make for easy handling are perfectly bite-sized and there is nothing stopping you from eating them whole.

Cheese aficionados will absolutely delight in the baked eggplant and zucchini with mozzarella. The cheese is rich with flavour and is a perfect complement to the soft slices of eggplant and zucchini.

The Wagyu beef burger comes with a juicy patty and tasty sourdough bun.

Fat Olive’s tortillas are delicious, even more so when they are fresh out of the oven.

The black mussels in spicy tomato sauce are an interesting find, as the soft and chewy mussels are best eaten drenched in the spicy and sour sauce.

Your seafood fest does not end here though, as there are still sautéed Tiger prawns with garlic and chilli oil, best enjoyed with the sourdough bread dunked in it. The fresh and large Tiger prawns are well enhanced by the piquant sauce.

All of these delicious dishes are in the Mixed Tapas Platter alone.

The Iberico Chorizo pizza (left) and the Iberico pork pizza are best when shared.

If you’re looking for a burger to top all others, the Wagyu beef burger is possibly the best you will ever savour in your lifetime.

Besides the juicy Wagyu beef patty, this decadent burger comes with sun-dried tomatoes, caramelised onions, melted mozzarella, romaine shreds and Aioli. To top it off, the burger buns are made of sourdough. Do feel free to grab the burger in your bare hands and unashamedly attack it, as this is the best way to enjoy something so heartily lip-smacking.

Not surprisingly, the pizza crust here is made with sourdough too. You will soon discover the definition of delicious when feasting on these slices of pizza, devouring the scrumptious meaty toppings and the chewy thin crust.

The seared Tuna steaks boast a seared exterior with a rare centre.

The Iberico Chorizo pizza may look a little like a pepperoni pizza, albeit adorned with arugula, but rest assured that this is a far superior pizza bursting with flavour.

The Iberico pork pizza on the other hand is garnished with coriander and generously laden with lashings of salty pork.

There are more tasty offerings soon to be added to the already vast array of food that Fat Olive serves, including seared Tuna steaks.

The black Angus striploin is juicy and cooked to perfection.

With a seared exterior and rare centre, the thick tuna cuts are deliciously meaty with a rich texture that will leave you craving for more.

The black Angus striploin meanwhile is a tasty cut cooked to tender, juicy perfection that comes crowned with elaborate swirls of golden-fried onions. It looks like a work of art too good to be eaten, but eat you must.

When you’re done with the savoury, you’ll be pleased to know that Fat Olive has a mouthwatering choice of desserts as well.

End your feast with a rich crème brûlée, baked to perfection with a glassy, crackling caramelised top covering a creamy, smooth custard beneath. You can also opt for a creamy rice pudding, which makes for a satisfying finish to any meal.

Chocolate fans should treat themselves to the flourless dark chocolate offering which is incredibly rich with a heavenly cocoa flavour.

Chef Kike Garcia found his love for cooking as a teenager growing up in Bilbao, Spain.

Co-owner and chef Kike Garcia, 50, recently shared with FMT that everything in his restaurant is made fresh and from scratch.

Having opened Fat Olive to keep himself busy, the Spanish chef said that he first got interested in the culinary arts as a teenager.

He has since found that the most important qualities one can have in the kitchen are a good attitude and the willingness to learn.

“You can never be afraid to make mistakes,” he says.
