Rimjhim chose Anju and her family, truth be told. It happened on a family trip to Frazer’s Hill one weekend.
A resident dog at the bungalow where they were staying had a litter of pups and tiny Rimjhim literally called out to them from the enclosure the moment they stepped out of their car. That was 11 years ago.
Today, Rimjhim’s pretty much the head of Anju’s household. In fact, she’s the princess who reigns supreme.
Her name means “the pitter patter of rain” in Hindi but the irony is that Rimjhim is terrified of rain and its attendant thunder and lightning.
It’s there’s a thunderstorm, she won’t touch her food. If you coax her to eat, she’ll flash a “But it’s raining, can’t you see!” look right at you. At times like these, it’s best to let her be.

When Rimjhim wants attention, she’ll shake her head vigorously, making a sound with her ears. Otherwise she’s rather self-sufficient and in fact, gets irritated with too much petting – except when Anju’s son, Kabir has his friends over.
Then she’s in her element, lapping up all the attention with a silly, pleased look plastered on her pretty face.
Rimjhim sleeps with the family’s housekeeper, Glory and at 6am sharp, there’s a scratch on Anju’s bedroom door. Well, with a live-in “canine” alarm clock to usher them out of bed, neither Anju nor her husband Venu is ever late for work.
Besides being the cigarette buddy of their assistant, Mr Selvam, Rimjhim is Anju’s constant companion in the morning and Venu’s in the evening.

Besides the name Rimjhim, she also answers to Princess Girl, Sexy, Rimaku, Rimju, Rimjiki, Achimon, Munchkin, Minchykin and best of all, Pretty Princess Girl.
Having a rather wide vocabulary, Rimjhim also moves her ears in acknowledgement when she’s called Pumpkin Princess, Pumpkin Girl, and Punchykin.
Yes, it does look like Rimjhim fits the part of a dainty little princess to whom everyone in Anju’s household pays loving obeisance to.
