These ‘Ninja Turtles’ are 24 years old and going strong

Pinto, Dinto and Tinto are Brazilian Red Eye Turtles who love to eat 'kangkung' and swim in crystal clear water.

Pinto, Dinto and Tinto were only the size of a 50 cent coin when they were young.

The Chinese believe that turtles bring their owners luck and if you asked Vivien Lim what she thought of it, she’d probably agree.

She chanced upon her little brood at a night market one day and had her heart set on getting her very own trio of Ninja Turtles as she lovingly calls them.

And so it was that she brought Pinto, Dinto and Tinto home. At the time, they were no bigger than the size of a 50 cent coin.

24 years later, these Brazilian Red Eye Turtles have grown up to be young, strapping lads that measure between 10-20cm each.

(L-R): Pinto, Dinto and Tinto have bright red streaks at the sides of their heads, above their eyes.

Vivien believes her three “ninjas” are some of the luckiest on earth as she loves them dearly, and is willing to do anything to ensure they get the best care.

She scrubs their hardy shells every week to ensure it maintains its brilliant, healthy shine. And since each is a stickler for cleanliness, the water in their containers is changed every day so it’s in pristine condition for the trio to swim, float, sleep and play.

Their diet? Bunches of fresh “kangkung” twice a day, something they never seem to tire of.

To Pinto, Dinto and Tinto, here’s wishing you a healthy and long life well into your forties.

Some Brazilian Red Eye Turtles can live well into their 40s.
