On August 5, American songstress Lana Del Rey took to Instagram to preview a new song inspired by the recent back-to-back shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
She shared an in-studio recording created in collaboration with producer Jack Antonoff, who plays guitar on the song.
“I’m still looking for my own version of America / One without the guns, the flag can freely fly / No bombs in the sky, only fireworks and you and I,” she sings in the video.
“Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be, so excuse me for having an opinion – but in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago,” she wrote in the accompanying caption.
Over the last weekend, a shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, left 22 people dead and another in a bar in Dayton, Ohio, resulted in nine victims.
In addition to Lana del Rey, several artists have been sharing condolences and spoke out against the current US gun control laws.
“Looking For America” arrives ahead of Lana del Rey’s upcoming new album, “Norman F**king Rockwell,” which is set for release on August 30.
Recently, the singer also shared a cover of Donovan’s 1966 hit “Season of the Witch,” which debuted in the trailer for the forthcoming horror film “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.”
The movie, which was directed by André Øvredal and produced by Guillermo del Toro, will hit theatres on August 9.
