Google teasing John Legend voice for Google Home

The voice is not currently available as an option in the Home app. It's simply an Easter egg of sorts, though it's likely that the official release is near.

On Sunday, redditor therealjustin published a post in the Google Home subreddit reporting that when he said “Thank you, John Legend” to his Google Home Mini, the assistant’s voice switched to John Legend’s to say “You’re very, very welcome.”

At the 2018 I/O, Google announced that six new voices are rolling out for the Assistant with “John Legend lend[ing] his melodic tones to the Assistant later this year.”

Though the singer-songwriter’s voice failed to become a voice option by the end of 2018, over this weekend just three months into 2019, redditors have been hearing Mr Legend responding to their “thank you”s with “You’re very, very welcome,” as spotted by Android Police.

With confirmation from other redditors commenting on the thread, the group found that saying “Hey, Google…Thank you, John Legend” prompts the Assistant’s voice to switch to the singer’s voice which always responds with, “You’re very, very welcome.”

As of right now, this voice is still not available as an option in the Home app. It’s simply an Easter egg of sorts, though it’s likely that the official release is near.

The 2019 Google I/O will take place from May 7 to May 9.
