If Klang is famous for Bak Kut Teh, and Penang for Char Kuey Teow and Laksa, then Rawang’s speciality must be its famous Tilapia.

Take Restoran R Cheng Fei Zhou Yu Wantan Mee, for instance. This turned out to be one rather unique restaurant mainly for their bold move to give a different interpretation to how Tilapia can be served.
Incidentally, this restaurant is exclusive to Rawang.
The restaurant is located in a residential area just a few minutes from the Rawang town centre.
Seating here is semi-alfresco, with a roof, no walls, and plenty of ceiling fans to keep you somewhat comfortable.
While there are quite a few dishes to choose from the menu, the star here is undeniably the Tilapia.
Here, Tilapia is prepared six ways and paired with either rice, or the restaurant’s unique offering of Wantan noodles.
Each of the six dishes ordered were priced at RM13.50, and came served with a portion of Wantan noodles and a small Tilapia that was either steamed of deep-fried.
The flavours are:
• Golden mushroom – classic with steamed Tilapia, enoki, garlic, ginger
• Bean sauce – brown bean sauce with deep fried tilapia
• Deep fried – self explanatory, with some chilli too
• Classic oiled – steamed with soya sauce and oil, and plenty of fried garlic
• Curry
• Tomyam

The Wantan Mee was rather good. The fish tasted fresh and flavourful regardless of the preparation method, and the different sauces were all spot on, including the Tomyam flavour (rarely offered in Chinese restaurants).
Go for the deep-fried version if you struggle with fish bones, otherwise the steamed version gives you slightly more in-depth flavours.
Try the chicken wings (RM3.50 each) to “supplement” the meal. These were pretty good – crunchy on the outside, juicy inside, and with a good Belacan-infused tang.
If you’re looking for something special and somewhat out of the ordinary, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out.
