“David Bowie Is,” which launched in 2013 at London’s Victoria & Albert (V&A) museum, ran for five years, visiting 12 museums and attracting 2 million visitors.

The V&A is behind the forthcoming digital version of the exhibition, as is the David Bowie Archive and New York product studio Planeta.

The experience will consist of a connected sequence of “audio-visual spaces” featuring music, artefacts and more. 3D scans will be used to present the artist’s costumes and treasured objects, and the team is considering a feature allowing users to “step into” an outfit and see themselves in it.

The digital experience will be available for mobile devices and all major VR/AR platforms. It will be offered in nine different languages, like the museum show, with a first release planned for fall 2018.
