SHANGHAI:
Chinese team Newbee have bounced back from their second-place finish at the International 7 championships in August to retake top spot among China’s Dota 2 teams by winning the Perfect World Masters.

Newbee, which was one of the best teams last season, had been struggling to maintain its dominance but swept to victory in the grand finals.

Electronic sports portal Dot Esports said Newbee won three games to none, putting to rest any hopes competitor Vici Gaming (VG) had of victory.

VG had been gunning for their first tournament win since April 2015.

However, Newbee proved more than a match for them, with Song “Sccc” Chun recording 48 kills, seven deaths and 33 assists.

According to Dot Esports, his kills contributed 47.5% of his team’s total, with Song dealing over 43,000 points of damage in the third game.

Newbee won US$150,000 (RM617,700) in prize money and 150 Pro Circuit points.

VG meanwhile won US$60,000 (RM247,080) and 90 Pro Circuit points.
