Posting the one-minute interview on her Instagram account, the 31-year-old gushed, “So honored to be a part of this moment in music. I had the pleasure of meeting @QuincyJones recently, he told me that.. you can’t live without music, and he spent his life making some of the most recognizable music on the planet.”
The interview was held in conjunction with the launch of the JBL Audio E55BT Quincy Edition wireless headphones in Los Angeles recently.
Speaking about the headphones, Yuna said Quincy had brought the “same expertise and passion” that he had for music, to the EQ tuning of the product. She added, “When you turn the heaphones bluetooth on, you’ll hear Quincy’s voice saying “Powering On” sooo cool! Music sounds great too.”
She also posted a shot of the headphones itself, saying that although she already owned one in grey, the pink was beckoning to her “heart” as well.
During the interview, Yuna asked Jones which contemporary artistes inspired him the most for the future in music, to which he answered, “I’ll start off with Kendrick Lamar.”
He also mentioned Bruno Mars, Common, Ludacris, Esperanza Spalding and “little” Joey Alexander.
“You know, he’s from Indonesia. He’s frightening. He’s 13 years old. He plays like Herbie Hancock,” Jones said admiringly of the young boy.
When asked by Yuna to finish the sentence, “Music is…”, Jones quipped, “The essence of the senses. Water and music are the two things that you can’t live without. Soothes your soul, you know. Your senses, all the time. Any mood you’re in.”
In the message accompanying the video, Yuna described Jones as “the best musician in this lifetime” and singled out Alexander as well, saying, “(shout out to lil joey alexander! we love u!)”
Jones’ music career has spanned over seven decades. He is a “bandleader, a solo artist, a sideman, a songwriter, a producer, an arranger, a film composer, and a record label executive, and outside of music, he’s also written books, produced major motion pictures, and helped create television series”, according to website allmusic.com
He was also the force behind Michael Jackson, and worked with an array of artistes from Frank Sinatra, Al Jarreau, Tevin Campbell and Bono of U2 among others.
