X-Men character Logan (“Wolverine” when in costume) is getting older.
Trying to live an anonymous, civilian lifestyle, earning money where he can to help look after the aging Professor X, he’s about to become a reluctant father — initially somewhat reluctant — when a young girl, Laura, turns up with powers very much like his own.
That plunges him back into conflict with mutant hunters on her trail, led by the machine-handed Donald Pierce.
Who’s in it?
Hugh Jackman returns for a final outing as Wolverine after nine appearances as the character — including two previous solo movies — since 2000’s franchise starter “X-Men.”
As Professor X, Patrick Stewart joins Jackman as a fellow returning franchise cast member, while Stephen Merchant is introduced as their ally Caliban.
Dafne Keen of sci-fi drama “The Refugees” becomes Laura, and Boyd Holbrook of “Narcos” and 2018’s “Predator” is Pierce.
Who’s behind it?
James Mangold helmed 2013’s “The Wolverine,” and “Logan” is his next stint behind the camera, having co-written it too.
Is it any good?
With reviews emerging from February 17 onwards, “Logan” has earned a 95% approval rating on aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, based on an 8.1/10 review score average.
Metacritic has it faring slightly worse with a 73/100 score, though the 2,400 IMDb users who left a rating were more enthusiastic, contributing to a 9.6/10 average.
When’s it out?
Having premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, an R-rated “Logan” targets the week of March 3 for its international debut.
The UK and Ireland, France, Belgium, Italy, South Korea and the Philippines are among Day 1 territories on March 1, with Australia, Argentina, Brazil, the Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, and Hong Kong on the 2nd, before a China, Canada and US opening on the 3rd.
