
The haunting tune was written by Emmy award-winning composer Nicholas Pike for the movie, 100 Years: One Woman’s Fight for Justice.
The song was among 91 others long-listed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, ahead of the nominations for five songs on the shortlist for the 89th Academy Awards next year.
The shortlist will be announced on Jan 24. The main ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 26.
In August, “100 Years” producer and director Melinda Janko called Yuna an “amazing singer” who had taken the US by storm with her latest single Crush, featuring Usher, which garnered over 11 million views on YouTube.
The singer-songwriter is now riding high after her chart success with Chapters, which made it to the Top 10 of Billboard’s Best R&B Albums of 2016: Critic’s Picks.
Among the hit singles from Chapters are Crush, Places to Go and Lanes.
Another notable Asian on the long list is India’s AR Rahman, who won two Oscars for his original score for the movie Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, and the song Jai Ho featured in the same movie.
This time, Rahman has been nominated for the sports biopic Pele: Birth of a Legend.
He was also previously nominated for his work on other Hollywood movies like Million Dollar Arm, The Hundred-Foot Journey and 127 Hours, although he did not win any other Oscars.
