
PETALING JAYA: With the United States presidential race keeping the world on edge, this has not stopped some folks within Twitter-verse from cracking jokes.Companies are also jumping on the bandwagon, with Royal Jordanian Air making use of the presidential race to put up a promotion which read: “Just in case he wins…travel to the US while you’re still allowed to!”
The ad contained ticket prices from Jordan to Chicago, Detroit and New York.
Canada’s immigration lawfirm Campbell Cohen also took a jab at the presidential race, saying on Twitter: “Americans, it’s time to fill out your FREE #movetocanada assessment form.”
Twitter user Patric Karlsson said: “Congratulations UK. You are no longer the dumbest country,” possibly alluding to the recent Brexit vote in which a majority of people from the country voted to leave the European Union (EU).
An Australian lawyer Mariam Veiszadeh tweeted: “Isn’t there some kind of an emergency clause that can be invoked that allows American folks to parachute Justin Trudeau in?”
Meanwhile, in what could be a related development, the website of the Immigration of Canada crashed.
While it may sound like a joke, this was not the case as checks on the www.cic.gc.ca website found it could not be accessed. Another site www.immigration.ca was also down.
“The Canadian Immigration website has crashed. That’s not a joke, it actually crashed,” tweeted Elias Toufexis.
“Sounds like a joke, but the Canadian Immigration site – cic.gc.ca/english is down due to overloading server issues,” said Kristian Sturt also on Twitter.
Several other tweets mentioned this, with one coming from the managing editor of the Toronto Star, Irene Gentle who said: “Canada’s immigration website has crashed.”
Editor at large of Australia’s Huffington Post also tweeted: “As #trump inches closer to the presidency, reports that the Canadian government’s immigration site has crashed.”
Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democrats’ Hillary Clinton are neck to neck in the race, as the former is leading in the final stages of the vote count.
