PETALING JAYA:
One thing that has always succeeded in uniting us Malaysians, is our love for food, specifically local delights, such as the ever popular nasi lemak.

If you are a nasi lemak lover and can never get enough of it, you will not want to miss the return of the ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ event.

All you have to do, is ‘bawa bertenang dan makan nasi lemak’ (keep calm and eat nasi lemak).

Organised by food website friedchillies.com, 40 nasi lemak vendors will set up shop under one roof for the one day event set to take place on Nov 5 at the TM Convention Centre in Bangsar from 9am to 5pm.

In a statement by FriedChillies Media, it is said that the event will feature more vendors from outside the Klang Valley this time around, such as Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Penang and Perak.

Previously, in 2013, the ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ event had 10 vendors. The number doubled the following year.

“Also in 2014, ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ set a record as a non-stop 8-hour food event, which attracted over 15,000 nasi lemak fans, who ate over 25,000 plates and sides of the much-loved dish.

“With this year being the biggest one yet, it is a true testament of our love for this national dish. This is definitely a homage for these vendors that have stood the test of time, bringing so much joy to people with their nasi lemak,” FriedChillies CEO Adly Rizal said in a press statement.

The ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ event this year will also be supporting a charity called The Nasi Lemak Project which among other initiatives, helps urban poor families be enterprisingly self-sufficient via selling nasi lemak.

According to FriedChillies, ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ will operate using a  coupon system where guests can purchase coupons and exchange it for nasi lemak and various side-dishes or ‘lauk’ as well as drinks.

For the uninitiated, traditionally, nasi lemak is made up of coconut milk and pandan leaf rice, anchovies cooked in sambal (chilli paste), fried peanuts, slices of cucumber and hard-boiled egg.

A variety of sides have been introduced to accompany the coconut milk rice over the years, among them, fried chicken as well as cuttlefish.

Coupon booklets for ‘I Eat Nasi Lemak’ can be purchased before the event or on the day itself. To book coupons, please call 03-77106809.
