PETALING JAYA: Similar to how Uber and GrabCar are giving the common folk an opportunity to earn some extra income on the side, many more people, young and old, are venturing into different types of businesses to ease their financial burden. One business that is offering such an opportunity is Wrapla Technologies Sdn Bhd.
As a new Small to Medium Enterprise (SME), Wrapla offers drivers a new opportunity to earn extra income while going about their daily lives.
“Wrapla is a technology-driven advertising platform which connects drivers and brands to create powerful on-vehicle advertising,” Wrapla founder Dinesh Karunamuti said.
In an exclusive interview with FMT, Dinesh said drivers of all ages can have their cars wrapped with advertisers’ stickers and earn up to RM878 per month.

He added that the advertisers could range from telecommunications companies, automotive industries and even startup companies.
“We can promote advertising campaigns, products and SMEs alike.
“With the current state of the economy, we just want to give back to the people. It is a very exciting business model as advertisers are always different,” Dinesh said.
Once wrapped, drivers would have to download the Wrapla application on their phones and keep the app turned on. Drivers would then have to reach a quota of 900km every month to earn the agreed payout in the chosen package. Drivers who do not hit the 900km mark will be paid according to mileage.
Dinesh, 32, added that Uber drivers who would want to earn “extra extra” income could apply for Wrapla’s service, as there were no rules that stated otherwise.
When asked how Wrapla was different from taxi advertisements, Dinesh explained that Wrapla’s target market was a lot more specific.
“This sort of business does not exist in the market right now. What Wrapla can do is that we can optimise the advertiser’s market by controlling the drivers. For example, if the advertiser is targeting the Damansara market, we will pick drivers from Damansara,” Dinesh said.
To date, Wrapla has more than 300 drivers and hopes to have 2,500 drivers and 50 advertisers across the peninsula by the end of the year.
