The most epic invention since the Chanel clutch bag, the dashcam has lovingly captured foaming-at-the-mouth road rage perpetrators at their bestial best; roaring-drunk or full-retard drivers demonstrating their ‘mad skillz’ during rush hour; glorious traffic accident close-calls and full-on gory catastrophes (grab the popcorn!); and weird phenomena like Malaysian drivers stopping at red lights (believe it!). The dashcam also gifts us this video of an incident along a busy Puchong highway during a light rainstorm. High winds rudely elbow a large, unsecured awning off an LRT guideway, sending it twirling earthwards and crashing onto the road below, lightly grazing an MPV (probably just a local make though). The dashcam/car-owner, who trails the affected vehicle by a few metres, pretends absolutely nothing has happened, coolly overtakes the traumatized car, and goes along his/her merry way (probably home, to upload the footage to YouTube) – and our faith in humanity is restored.

A monkey – most likely an urban macaque – decides it wants to be a bro, and somehow gains access to a dorm room of an all-male hostel at Universiti Teknologi Petronas. Its would-be roommates, however, have run screaming for the hills (rude!), leaving the macaque to unpack and arrange its specially-chosen university attire in a closet all by his lonesome self. Moments later, peeing with fear, a sole student, clad in the foolproof protective gear of a motorcycle helmet, riding gloves (huh?), a jaunty scarf and Adidas track pants – and armed with a .22 caliber broom – pokes gingerly around the room, hoping to convince monkey-poo to make lodging inquiries elsewhere. Overjoyed at what it thinks is a welcoming party, the simian frat boy leaps out of its wardrobe hideout – triggering the Apocalypse. Dorm residents emit death wails, run helter-skelter into walls, throw themselves off balconies, lose consciousness, or pray for death as their much smaller guest tries to politely make their acquaintance.

Off the rails

Providing much-appreciated comic relief for zombified KTM commuters, a young woman whom one can very safely assume is, to put it delicately, bonkers, pays homage to the fine Malaysian tradition of going ‘amok’. Either impromptu stripped down to, or having left the house in, a seaweed green bra top and skin-tight fuchsia leggings (either way, a major fashion no-no), the infuriated maiden directs her wrath towards a rather bemused and slightly bored man (whom one suspects she hallucinates has wronged her). Flinging indistinct profanities, an unlucky plastic chair, her stick limbs, and gobs of spit at the stoic man with the force of a broken-off Airbus engine, the enraged damsel doesn’t break character for even a second. After 2 minutes and 46 seconds of her circus performance, one begins to worry that she’ll miss her train (to Crazytown, of course).
