Cupid may be pelting you with roses, greeting cards and romantic candlelit dinner venue suggestions – but this Valentine’s Day weekend, consider canceling your date with convention, and making an illicit rendezvous with laughter. Spend an evening getting intimate with the best of Malaysian comic theatre, and with any luck, your encounter will end with, as they say in Star Trek, “A violation of the Prime Directive.”
Returning for a third tryst with the local stage, ‘Tales from the Bedroom’ (TFTB) is the love child of TFTB 1 and TFTB 2, which audiences fell head-over-heels for in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Subtitled ‘Save the Best for Last’, TFTB 3 features 12 of the best vignettes from the previous two sold-out productions – but sexed-up with brand new, come-hither twists. The two-hour show will raise the curtain on a dozen steamy – and ultimately sidesplitting – boudoir-centric tales, covering one-night stands, sneaky quickies, bawdy pillow talk and ‘getting it on’ via the phone.

The labour of love of producer and playwright Fa Abdul (FMT’s very own!), and covered with the kisses of celebrated director Matthew Koh, TFTB 3 – the last in the TFTB trilogy – features a Valentine’s bouquet of award-winning actors, including Sudhan Nair, Hazril Harith, Mia Sabrina Mahadir, Ashraf Zainul, Roshinee Mookaiah, Vick Menon, Phraveen Arakiah and an amorous assortment of other actors.
TFTB 1 and TFTB 2 were the sweethearts/crushes of smitten critics and audiences nationwide, and earned profusions of professions of love – in the form of awards hardware – from the likes of Mercedes Benz Creative Excell 2015 and the Short & Sweet Theatre Festival. TFTB 3 is set to enamour a whole new set of unsuspecting, lovelorn theatre enthusiasts.
So arrange for a messy break-up with the clingy clichés of Valentine’s Day celebrations, and jump into bed with TFTB 3 (and have your funny bone INNOCENTLY poked).
