PETALING JAYA:
National men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun stormed into the quarter-finals of the Hylo Open in Germany by convincingly defeating an Indonesian pair.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun, ranked world No 5, took 52 minutes to defeat Indonesia’s world No 15 pair Bagas Maulana-Leo Rolly Carnando 21-9, 17-21, 22-20.

The pairs have met three times so far with the Malaysians having a 2-1 head-to-head record.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun have a tough quarter-final match tomorrow as they will face Indonesia’s top pair Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun have now made it to two quarter-finals in a row after last week’s French Open where they lost to world No 1 pair and the eventual winners Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae from South Korea.

They are currently in the No 5 position in the qualifying list for the lucrative season-ending World Tour Finals to be played in Hangzhou, China, in December and are poised to be one of the two Malaysian pairs who will feature in the tournament. The other is world No 2 pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik.

In the women’s doubles match, world No 36 pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting also advanced to the last eight after defeating Germany’s Nikol Carulla-Carmen Maria Jimenez 25-23, 21-14.
