Tang Jie-Ee Wei struggle past Taiwanese pair to enter quarters in France

The world No 3 pair defeated Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan in a nail-biting match at the French Open.

World mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei edged Taiwan’s Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan in three games to book a quarter-final berth at the French Open.

In an intense match, world No 3 pair Tang Jie-Ee Wei won the first game 22-20, against their 18th ranked rivals, but lost 17-21 in the second game. Tang Jie-Ee Wei, however, bounced back in the third game to defeat their opponents 22-20.

The nail-biting match at the Glaz Arena in Cesson-Sevigne, France, lasted 62 minutes.

This is the third time that the Malaysian pair have beaten the Taiwanese duo in four encounters.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei, who were knocked out in the semi-final at the Denmark Open last week, will face Hong Kong’s world No 8 pair Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
