National mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai failed to make it to the Hong Kong Open quarter-finals, falling to their junior compatriots Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin in the second round.

This is the world No 8 pair’s second defeat in two weeks in the hands of their 14th-ranked compatriots, the first being at the World Championships two weeks ago.

In the match today, which went to three games, Pang Ron-Su Yin took 45 minutes to win 21-10, 14-21, 21-16, with Soon Huat-Shevon making numerous unforced errors.

Pang Ron-Su Yin have now beaten their seniors twice in their three encounters so far.

In the last eight tomorrow, Pang Ron-Su Yin will take on China’s world No 2 pair Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping who defeated Indonesia’s world No 12 pair Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu.
