The Malaysians, who initially made many unforced errors, prevailed in the end by winning 14-21, 21-19, 21-17 against the world No 11 Indonesian pair in a match that lasted 67 minutes.
In the quarter-final tomorrow, they will meet Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto from India who defeated Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet 19-21, 21-12, 21-15.
On paper, the Malaysians have the edge as they defeated the Indian duo in three games in their last meeting at the Indonesia Open in May.
At the last World Championships in 2023, Tang Jie-Ee Wei crashed out in the quarter-finals.
The duo have struggled to find their best form with obvious on-court differences leading to them splitting temporarily in March before reuniting a month later.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei failed to reach the final in any tournament this year, falling at the semi-final stage five times. Their last title was the Korea Open last September.
